Day by day
Cross the border from Montenegro into Shkodra, a sprawling city blending winding streets framed by pastel-coloured façades. Check into a traditional guesthouse before enjoying an afternoon of exploring the rustic ruins of Rozafa Castle.
Enjoy a ferry ride to Valbona via Lake Koman, where forest dissolves into cliff face as the Dinaric Alps come into view. On arrival, tuck into some authentic eats - think homemade pies and slow-cooked stews - at the mountain hideaway you'll call home for the night.
Hike the Valbona Pass led by your local guide. The trek – which takes six to seven hours – takes you through beautiful Balkan countryside past natural springs. Arrive at Thethi village, where you'll be staying in a cosy guesthouse.
Today, you'll hike back over the border into Montenegro. Scale the rugged peaks of the Accursed Mountains, towering over leafy valleys and remote villages below. After six or seven hours of walking, you'll reach the trail's end and catch your transfer back to Podgorica.
Head to Podgorica airport for your flight home.
