Go deep into Nepali culture and experience the foothills of the Himalayas on this 18 day adventure that takes you down the largest and most thrilling rapids of the Sun Koshi river in Nepal.

Hit the river on your raft and navigate between moments of calm for your chance to take in the incredible scenes of the Himalayas or get exhilarated on tougher days designed to put you through your paces.

On the days between your rafting expedition, you'll also get the chance to get a real taste of Nepali cuisine and customs with eye-opening trips into Kathmandu, its magnificent temples and welcoming locals. Camp in remote spots and spend time with the people that call them home for full Nepali cultural immersion.

The Plan

    On arrival

    Arrive at Kathmandu Airport, where you'll be greeted by a member of our team and taken to your hotel. Once everyone has arrived, in the evening you'll have a team meeting and meal to get to know eachother and prepare for the adventure to come.

    Day

    Explore the Kathmandu Valley, an area that combines natural heritage and cultural experiences. Enjoy visits to city squares, magnificent temples and take in outstanding panoramic views of mountains and cityscapes. Let your guides teach you the history of this ancient city with their in-depth knowledge and enthusiasm.

    Day

    Leave Kathmandu early in the morning to the start of the river (approx. 3 hours). When you arrive watch the guides spring into action unloading all the gear and pumping up the rafts. After lunch there'll be a safety briefing before you head out start the expedition. The river starts off easy here with some class 2 rapids. You might even be able to stop off at a local Hindu temple to bless the trip. By night, camp on a river beach and spend the evening under the stars.

    Day

    Once you’ve had breakfast and packed up camp, continue on downstream. The river starts to increase in volume as the Tamba Kosi joins. Today gets more exciting as you pass through more notable rapids like “No Exit” and “Meatgrinder”. There are some flat sections too (great for cliff jumping). In the evening set up camp and get to exploring the area, or even learn to kayak.

    Day

    Wake to hot water in a kettle ready for your morning coffee and breakfast ready to fuel your day. The river keeps on expanding as more streams keep joining the Sun Koshi. The main event today is just after the Liku Khola joins and creates the Anxiety series of rapids. Again there'll be plenty of time to enjoy the flatter sections of warm water where you can have a go at kayaking and learn about reading the water. Once camp's set, enjoy a game of football with the locals who'll probably stay for a song around the camp fire and watch the sun go down.

    Day

    Hakapur is the biggest commercially rafted rapid in Nepal. Today you'll stop before the rapid to decide how best to approach. Depending on river levels the rafts might have to walk round the first section as it may be un-runnable. Prepare for the craziest roller coaster of your life then wind down by the Dudh Kosi - a river that runs off Everest.

    Days 7 - 10

    Over the next few days you can expect "Jaws" I, II & III' , "Rhino Rock" and “Jungle Corridor”, which is basically 10km of non-stop rapid with bouncy waves finished off with "Rollacoaster" which if you are in the mood is a safe place for you to flip the raft, with a highlight being an enormous waterfall to take your breath away. After three exhilarating days on the water, you'll take a plane back to Kathmandu to save yourself a 13-hour bus ride where you can get some well deserved R & R, ready for the next stage of your journey.

    Day

    After 8 days on the river you'll need some time to rest and kick back. Today you shall have some free time to go exploring on your own. Kathmandu is full of hidden treasures and ancient history. Explore the old Dhurba Square where Royalty used to live or head to Pashupatinath Temple and witness riverside cremations for a very humbling experience. Thamel is full of fantastic and bazaar shops that can keep you busy for hours just seeing what they have to sell.

    Day

    Today you'll fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara, be sure to keep an eye out of the window for some fantastic views! Once you arrive in Pokhara you'll have time to walk down the Peace Trail on the lakefront, sit in a bar and listen to some live music or visit one of the amazing spas on offer.

    Day

    Take the morning to explore before setting off through the Himalayan foothills to Sirubari. The 4x4 drive takes about 4 hours through stunning scenery. Upon arrival you'll be greeted by your Nepalese hosts before being shown to your home-stays. Enjoy the evening by walking around the village, interacting with locals, or having a beer at the local shop.

    Day

    Spend the day exploring the visit today on a 4 hour hike to the top of a mountain to see panoramic views of the Annapurna Mountains. Or meet the monks that live way atop the mountain. Your night is dedicated to local culture, with the whole village turning out to enjoy a night of singing and dancing.

    Day

    Enjoy a farewell ceremony from your hosts then trek or ride the 4x4 back to Pokhara. If you're trekking, you'll walk along the valley side to a saddle on the mountain ridge. Cross the saddle and head back down what seems like the steepest staircase in the world. When you reach the valley floor you'll be greeted by a vehicles and driven the rest of the way. Then spend a chilled night enjoying local food in a restaurant and toasting with a beer.

    Day

    Wake before dawn to be driven to the top of Sarangkot. Here you'll wait for the stunning Annapurna Sunrise. The mountains are etched into the sky before being blasted into colour as the sun starts to rise. You'll hike down to Lakeside for breakfast then the day will be spent touring round Pokhara. Visit the World Peace Pagoda, padding across Fewa Lake, and visiting temples. Then you'll have some free time in the evening to go shopping, enjoy a spa, or explore Lakeside.

    Day

    Get up for our final breakfast in Pokhara. Make sure you have everything packed for another stunning flight into Kathmandu. Once we have touched down we'll head back to the Hotel and have some free time before we head out for our Farewell Meal. Share stories and memories whilst celebrating our incredible time together before saying goodbye.

    On departure

    Either explore Kathmandu before heading off or take your transfer in the morning. Your transport to Kathmandu airport will be organised for a seamless farewell to your adventures in Nepal.
